The boat, Dream Catcher, is the first boat in South Africa to be designed specifically for whale watching. It is extremely comfortable and spacious, with on board toilets, observation deck for photography enthusiasts, PA system and even a hydrophone! Dream Catcher is 14m long and complies with all the safety regulations set out by the marine authorities.

Once you have arrived at The Great White House, you will receive a brief introductory talk about the route, safety, and what to look out for. Passengers are fitted with comfortable life-jackets and waterproof jackets. Safety is of the utmost importance.

Whale Watching Trip length is between 2 and 2.5 hours, depending on sightings and weather conditions. All cruises depart from Kleinbaai harbour near Gansbaai. Dyer Island is located 8 km from shore and is an access controlled Important Bird Area (IBA) for the conservation of its many resident bird species, including African penguins. Adjacent to Dyer Island is Geyser Rock, home to a 60,000 strong Cape fur seal colony. These seals are present all year round. We will take you into the channel of water between Dyer Island and Geyser Rock known as the world famous ‘Shark Alley’. We will then take you to the whale hot-spots in the bay. With over a decade of experience, not only do we know where to expect the best whale viewings, but the whales have also learned where to expect us!

We pride ourselves on being both fun and educational. Each trip is led by experienced marine biologists and guides who will share their knowledge with you, keeping emphasis on the welfare and conservation of the animal. Responsible tourism is our main objective so we focus on conservation, education, community upliftment and safety.

The boat is surveyed annually by the SA Maritime Safety Authority, conforms to its specifications and is licensed and fully insured for 50 passengers and 6 crew. Safety equipment includes first aid kit, radio and cellular phone.
All clients have to sign an indemnity form on arrival before they can ride no sign no ride.

Customer Reviews

We had a great day starting with prompt pick up from our hotel in Camps Bay. We were very glad of the waterproofs. We thought we had come well equipped but we would have struggled without the additional protection. The crew were fantastic and extremely knowledgeable. In all a great experience - Lynne Campbell

Good morning, My wife and I had a very good day overall, especially for the most part, that is to say the observation of the animals. We also enjoyed the smiles of all the staff and the clarity of the comments and explanations provided on board However, we believe that two minor aspects of this day could be improved: a) Before boarding: the presentation of the action for the pingoins should be announced more clearly on the website and presented from the outset as optional. Under the present conditions, visitors are eager to embark and they "undergo" this presentation, which does not encourage them to financially support your action. b) On board, an effort should be made to improve the management of the 16 seats on the flybridge. We had to calm some very excited passengers because we had gone up and their friends had to stay on the main deck. Perhaps better explain, or introduce a different pricing? We thank the whole team, and we will have a great memory of this day. Olivier and Laurence Barnouin - Olivier Barnouin

Excellent trip from beginning to end. Very friendly driver with good stops. Knowledable folks on the boat. My wife got a touch of sea sickness and one of your folks was right there to help. Only con was on the way back a bird was trailing the ship. One of the crew fed the bird a sandwich with a paper wrapping. Didn't seem consistent with your 'sustainability' theme. I did buy a penguin house and hope we have a nice penguin family to give it to. - Michael B McMahan

excellent trip, very helpful and knowledgeable crew ..... They were persistent in searching for a whale and although it was the beginning of the season we saw 2 whales apart from sharks, African penguins, albatross, sea lions etc . small group, total of 3 hours on the sea had a great time, thanks guys .. suggestions 1) you could have a little more variety in the lunch :) . 2) The return was good although I think a little expensive I am coming back again - Rajmohan Panda

Thanks very much for great trip. The staff was very professional, knowledgeable, and helpful. The transportation which you provide from the Capetown area was very much appreciated, and essentially made the trip possible for me - very smart of you to offer this service. I have already recommended your company to the people who operate the tour I was on, who hopefully will send more people your way - I also hope to be back in the area again and will certainly plan another whale watching trip. Thanks very much. Sheldon Nelson snne@comcast.net - Sheldon Nelson
